Jamie welcomes the sublime guitarist Steve Vazquez and author Mark Guarino for the Epiphany Salon night “Revelations” at Tre Kronor.
“Now there’s a cold upon the country
There’s frost within your eyes
Everything looks black against the snow”
(-John Kirkpatrick)
The “Revelations” theme for Epiphany Night at Tre Kronor brings a wintry mix of classical and folk songs, and stories to the Salon. The fine guitar stylings of Steve Vazquez, in solo instrumentals and as guitar accompanist to Jamie’s singing are featured. Special guest writer Mark Guarino (Country and Midwestern) joins us reading an original piece.
In this final event of the Christmas season, we focus on hope for the new year. Admission is $25. Food and drink separate. Special seasonal menu. BYOB. We do sell-out, so reserve early.

Steve Vazquez, guitarist
The versatile and skilled Chicago guitarist Steve Vazquez began his love for the guitar at the age of eleven. I’ve heard him play at family events for years, and we finally collaborated last January for the Roots Epiphany night. What a pleasure. His numerous Chicago appearances have included the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, The Fourth Presbyterian Church Noonday Series, The Old Town School of Folk Music, Harris Theater, Hothouse, The Metro, Double Door, The Empty Bottle and Reggie’s Rock Club. Steve has been heard on WFMT, WXRT, WBEZ, Q101, WNUR, Radio Arte and more airwaves across the US and Europe. Steve is on the faculties of Elmhurst University, where he teaches Guitar Studio, Ensembles and Guitar Techniques for Music Education, and of William Rainey Harper College, where he teaches Guitar Studio, Class Guitar and is the Guitar Ensemble Director.
Mark Guarino, author
Author and journalist Mark will be reading an original piece inspired by the Salon’s epiphanies/revelations theme. Mark’s book Country and Midwestern, Chicago in the History of Country Music and the Folk Revival is considered the quintessential historical guide for the folk/country music-lover, and a great read. The book is a recipient of the 2024 Certificate of Merit for Excellence in Historical Sound Research in Recorded Country, Folk, World or Roots Music by the Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC)
Mark generously also produced the musical tribute to Michael Smith last December. The second annual concert is at SPACE Jan 11, 2025.
