New Years, 2013
Notes on 2012; 2013 Winter Preview
A few weeks ago my daughters and I caroled house-to-house on our block in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood. We were joined by my very musical family and friends from the Chicago music community. I let our neighbors know we were coming, and we were met by kids in pajamas, and whole families – waiting for the 50 person throng to come to their door and sing. Caroling was a highlight of the season for us and for Roots Salon, the intimate performance space in my home.
In 2012, Roots Salon also brought great Salon concerts by Willa Moore, Beau O’Reilly and Ed Reardon, Anne Hills and Ilene Weiss, and my daughters’ band Midnight Moxie
I host a monthly women’s salon with the Community of Voices. We created “What Will the Neighbors Say?”, an art installation at Winnemac Park, Chicago. Artist Loretta Line curated. We had over 120 participants from the neighborhood.
The Community of Voices is also Maureen Connolly, Maureen Flannery, Lois Hobart, Kristin Lems, Willa Moore, Anne Schultz, Mary Watson, and hospice nurse and playwright Catherine Gallogly, whose play Tying Up Loose Ends (which I directed) had its own success in 2012. Catherine and daughter Ann took the show to the American Hospital Association conference in Boston, Mass.
December brought the release of Songs of a Catholic Childhood CD with Michael Smith and John Abbey and me. We worked hard to get our songs and stories out to folks and are excited it leads to more concerts, tours and building a new, broader audience.

Also in the Fest this year is Identity Cruxes, an offering from my brother Ned – on Feb 2 & 3. READ bout RHINO: http://rhinofest.com/

“I just enjoyed your show for the second time.
Even as a recording, it’s authentically touching. And gets better and better as it goes along. Excellent writing and nice quiet comic timing–and then there’s your lovely voice.
I hope a million people hear this work.”
